This graduate program is designed to teach students to report intelligently and write clearly about science, medicine, technology, and the environment for a general audience. Students are encouraged to examine and write about science as part of the fabric of our society. They are taught to evaluate scientific research and its applications and to decode jargon. They learn how to engage readers while explaining complex ideas. The curriculum includes a thorough grounding in basic newswriting and reporting. Graduates are prepared to take on jobs as reporters and editors for general-interest and specialized newspapers, magazines, and broadcast outlets.

Medical and Science Journalism Program

University of Florida - The College of Journalism and Communications, with support from other colleges on campus, offers a master's track in science and health communications. The program is designed to teach scientists and health specialists to communicate effectively via mass media and to teach mass media specialists to translate the language of science and health into meaningful and understandable stories for their audiences. These goals are achieved through theoretical writing and applied courses.

University of North Carolina - The Medical & Science Journalism Program at UNC is one of the nation's first master's programs of its kind. The program teaches skills needed to work as a practicing medical and science journalist across all media platforms. The mission of the program is to educate journalists so that they can communicate the wonders and complexities of science and medicine to capture the imaginations of viewers, listeners and readers. Medical and science journalists provide a bridge between scientists and consumers.

University of Kentucky - Certificate in Health Communications

New York University - Science, Health, and Environmental Reporting. The Science, Health and Environmental Reporting Program (SHERP) at New York University is one of the world's oldest and most successful science journalism training programs. Students completing the intensive 16-month program receive a Master of Arts degree in Journalism and an Advanced Certificate in Science, Health and Environmental Reporting. They join an extended family of writers, editors and producers (more than 350 at last count!) committed to covering scientific, medical and environmental issues with precision, subtlety and passion.

University of Minnesota - M.A. in Health Journalism & Communication. It is designed for journalists who have some experience in journalism and want to learn how to better report on medical research, consumer health issues, the business of health and health policy. It is also designed for public health professionals who want to learn how to write journalistically. The Health Journalism & Communication program has two distinct, but overlapping, programs of study. Students in the Health Journalism emphasis will gain advanced knowledge about public health and the evaluation of claims from health, medical, and scientific sources, as well as advanced training on reporting health stories for different media. Students in the Health Communication emphasis will learn the fundamentals of writing about health topics for different audiences in different formats, as well as health campaign development and evaluation.

Emerson College - MA program in Health Communication, offered in collaboration with Tufts University School of Medicine, is a unique program emphasizing application firmly grounded in theory and research. It will provide you the knowledge and skills necessary to plan, deliver, and evaluate health information and disease prevention campaigns; advocate for health policy initiatives; manage healthcare delivery systems; and inform, influence, and motivate private and public audiences about health concerns.

B.A. JOURNALISM & TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION - Prepares students for careers in newspapers, magazines, television, radio and internet reporting, public relations, specialized and technical communication, computer-mediated communication and emerging careers related to media technology.
M.S. PUBLIC COMMUNICATION & TECHNOLOGY - Prepares graduates for careers in communication management of health, environmental, scientific or technical information; computer-mediated communication, public relations and strategic communication – or the pursuit of higher level academic work.
PH.D. PUBLIC COMMUNICATION & TECHNOLOGY - Focuses on two important concerns in society, including the role of information in the public's understanding of contemporary issues, trends and events, and the impact of new communication technologies on citizens and professional communicators.

University of the Sciences in Philadelphia - Biomedical Writing. Non-thesis MS program teaches you the skills to organize and communicate medical data with clarity and covers a broad range of material from documentation for clinical trials to publication planning and pharmaceutical promotion.
